Dr. Anthony C. Hood is the Director of Civic Innovation in the Office of the President at UAB as well as an Associate Professor of Management in the UAB Collat School of Business. The highly engaged nature of his work affords him unique opportunities to do cool stuff like lead fireside chats with Apple CEO Tim Cook and take selfies with business gurus like Warren Buffet.
Dr. Hood is an alum of Harvard Business School’s Young American Leaders Program, Stanford University’s Teaching and Learning Studio, the Community Health Leadership Program at the Morehouse School of Medicine, The PhD Project, and Leadership Birmingham. He received his PhD in Management (with concentrations in Entrepreneurship and Strategy) in just 3 years from the University of Alabama (Tuscaloosa).
Prior to academia, Dr. Hood enjoyed a 10-year career as an engineer with BellSouth and AT&T in roles such as systems design, coding, networking, and sales consulting. Before leaving the company to pursue his PhD full-time, Dr. Hood was honored with the Pinnacle Award, the company’s highest honor for productivity and leadership.
Dr. Hood was recently honored by Alabama Power Company with their prestigious Power of Leadership Award. He has also been honored with a Community Game Changer award from the Vulcans Community Awards, in part, due to his work with NHabitBham, an innovative startup seeking to revitalize neighborhoods.
